June 19, 2010

MaineTeenTalk in conjunction with our partners at Southern Maine Aviation held it's 2nd Annual "Pulling Together For Teens" Airplane Pull event at the Sanford Regional Airport on Saturday June 19th. The day began with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Cockpit Cafe in the Southern Maine Aviation hangar. It continued with the Classic Car Show hosted by the Local B.P.O.E Sanford Lodge 1470. Of course the highlight of the day was the Airplane Pull itself. This year's competition featured four teams, a professional scoring and timing system, and multiple opportunities for each team to pull. In the end the day was won by the team representing the Acton Fire Department but its a safe bet to say that everyone involved had a spectacular time! Check out the team photos below as well as their individual team results and we hope we will see YOU at next year's pull!

Wolfe's Neck Trek 5k

November 14th, 2009

MaineTeenTalk was pleased to present its first annual Wolfe's Neck Trek 5k event on November 14th, 2009. This 5k charity event was held at the scenic Wolfe's Neck Farm venue located in Freeport. The course for the 3.1 mile run began at the parking lot of Wolfe's Neck Farm and consisted of two 1.55 mile loops around the camp roads and wooded paths near beautiful Casco Bay. One hundred fifteen runners of all ages and skill levels took part in the event and the top three male and female runners in each age category were recognized with race medals for their stellar finishing times. Dr. Sears Zone Bars donated energy bars for the run and Poland Spring gave a generous water donation. Road ID donated six gift certificates as well as race bibs and shoe tags, and the timing was expertly done by BART Race Services. Shaws Supermarket furnished some of the race day fruit, and the largest sponsor of course was Wolfe's Neck Farm itself for providing the venue. The event was a huge success thanks to our race coordinator Ross Endres, the MTT staff, their families and friends, and a very dedicated group of Cheverus High School student volunteers. We received plenty of positive feedback from the runners who are looking forward to the race again next year.  For a breakdown of the race times by age category, click on the link below.

Statue Theater

June 23rd and 30th, 2009

and August 7th, 2009

MaineTeenTalk was proud to offer a new workshop for teens which took place this summer over two dates in June and one date in August. The focus of these events was to teach teens a different form of expression by using the body to communicate emotion. This communication is accomplished by creating "statues", and is based on the teachings of Augusto Boal. Facilitated by Educator Jules Jensen, both workshops were well received by participating teens, and served as a great time while exploring complex issues. MaineTeenTalk would like to thank both the Space Gallery, and the St. Lawrence Arts Center for their donations of the theater space to put on the workshops in. For more information on both of the venues click on their logo to go to their homepages.

Another Successful Year!

June 2009

The 2008-2009 school year was another successful one here at MaineTeenTalk. Our program was offered in 20 different high schools across the state, and reached close to 2000 students. We also had the opportunity to present to teens at the Long Creek Youth Development Center, Youth Alternatives Program and Sweetser. The research data gathered this year continues to help shape our curriculum, and the feedback from teachers and students has been overwhelmingly positive. A huge thank you to all of the schools that helped make this year a success, and we look forward to another great school starting in the Fall!

1st Quarter 2009 Team Builder

February 5th, 2009

The heavy weather of both January and February mad the first quarter team building event an indoor one. That didn't bother anyone though as the afternoon was spent celebrating three staff members who have February birthdays and partaking of several rounds of competitive board game play. As a special treat we all got to enjoy the company of educator Jules Jensen's sisters who were visiting from Jules's native country of Denmark.

2008-2009 Teacher Workshops

February 2009

In November of 2008 and February of 2009, MaineTeenTalk hosted a series of workshops in 4 cities across the state, featuring the MTT Healthy Relationships curriculum, for new and returning educators. These workshops provided a great opportunity for the organization to establish new school partnerships and revitalize existing connections. Additionally the workshops featured new curriculum content and enhancements which were introduced for the first time. Attending educators received contact hours, doorprizes, lunch and classroom supplies.

4th Quarter 2008 Team Builder

October 17th, 2008

Usually once per quarter the staff here at MaineTeenTalk like to take a little time out to regroup and catch up with one another. Due to our busy teaching schedule and our many on-going initiatives there are some weeks where we might not get to see each other at all, and being committed to educating others on healthy relationships we would be remiss if we didn't spend time working on our own. This quarter we got into the spirit of Fall by traveling to Alfred Maine and visiting a local corn maze and pumpkin patch. The day was a lot of fun and we only got lost once..........
